This has become one of my favorite restaurants to come to for special occasions! I've been here a few times already and have to say that the food hits every time. The crispy rice spicy tuna tartare, raw beef tartare, wagyu sirloin with bone marrow, miso cod, and hamachi Serrano chili roll are some of my favorites. The service is top tier as well. Very attentive, hospitable and kind. I usually prefer to sit downstairs. The lighting there is more dim and vibey. It would be great for a date night. It is a bit pricey but definitely worth it. Great experience all around.
I wanted to go to a steakhouse for our 12-year-anniversary. I wanted a typical, classic American steakhouse, so when my husband said we were going to Roka Akor, I was a bit hesitant. Only because I had my heart set on mac and cheese and other American sides. Well, once again, my husband proved why he deserves to stick to making reservations. The service was great. We had a waiter who started out with us, but his shift ended during our meal, so another waiter took over. Both waiters were pleasant and not overbearing. Our needs were met instantly. I loved that you can see the cooks at work and the hustle and bustle of the kitchen without it being to chaotic. The decor and ambiance were excellent. The food--everything I ate was excellent. The shrimp tempura was my favorite of the two appetizers we got, and I also liked the seared scallop. The baby back ribs were so tender and tasty. PERFECTION. The hamachi Serrano chili roll?! LOVED IT. This was a great restaurant, and I plan to come back.
Such an amazing meal! I thoroughly enjoyed my first dining experience at ROKA. Servers were very welcoming, attentive, and accommodating. The zen wooden interior created a calming ambience. Every single item we ordered was a solid 5/5. Unique flavors, beautiful presentations, perfectly cooked, and best yet is large portions. Standouts of the night were the eggplant tempura, sweet corn, yuzu miso marinated black cod, futo maki roll, and Japanese mushroom rice hot pot. I definitely see myself coming back time and time again with family and friends.
I've been here a few times and always thought Roka Akor was mid but this recent time I was thoroughly impressed. Let me start this review with stating how lovely our server Erick was. Polite, classy and just a kindred soul. He was consistently checking up on my cousin and I making sure we were enjoying our meal and kept refilling our waters. Highlights: Wagyu tartare - (4.5/5) Wagyu tartare was delectable and just melted through each bite. The only complaint was that some bites felt as it still had some silver skin and was on the chewier side. Miso black cod -(5/5) the smokiness really elevated the richness of the fish. The miso sauce was umami and nutty and paired perfectly with the fish. Hokkaido Uni - (5/5) very fresh and the uni was not fishy whatsoever. Creamy and crisp taste. Oysters - (3/5) the oysters were decent but not as fresh as other restaurants Overall great experience and can not wait to come back for the good food and impeccable service.
Was in SF for a work trip and this was just down the street from my hotel so decided to pop in to indulge in some sushi. Was pleasantly greeted by the man at the front who informed me they had happy hour going on and took me to the downstairs area to be able to enjoy the HH menu and dinner. I sat at the bar and had a great bartender who also helped me with choosing a drink and enough food to fill me up! Started with the wagyu dumplings (which were on HH) but can definitely be spicy with the chilis on top And then tried a variety of different sashimi pieces - all phenomenal!
We came here as a party of 12 for two birthdays. The ambiance was super cute and intimate. We were seated downstairs in a corner, but it felt cramped, as we were squeezed into an 8-seater table with people at the ends. We made reservations and had a set dollar amount to target due to our party size, which was fine, but for the amount of money we paid and the amount of food we ordered, everything was very tight. The food was delicious, and the omakase was great. The service was good and fast. The only complaint I have is that the person dropping off the food seemed new and wasn't explaining things to us. Everything was just placed down, and we had to figure things out ourselves. There were times when we didn't know if it was the omakase menu items or the regular stuff we ordered. The dessert for the omakase came with items I had listed for food allergies, like nuts and mango. They took the item back and kind of switched it out, but there was still a piece of mango in the fruit platter. Thankfully, my friend spotted it, and I didn't eat any of the fruits, or it could have ended badly. Overall, it was a great experience minus a few issues.
Came in on Saturday evening on 7/20/2024 for a late Fathers Day Dinner. Got there about 15 minutes before our reservation time, was seated right away. We sat downstairs, in an intimate setting. Our servers came over to the table fairly fast (sorry I forgot your name). You were very helpful, we took your recommendation for the Omakase for $152.00 per person, which I think it was a very good price for all the delicious food that was bought out and we were FULL!!! 1st Course: Smoked Trout Caviar was excellent not salty, perfect with ginger, green onion, and eggs. Wagyu Filet Tartare with Black Truffle Aioli, Truffle Caviar and Quail Egg was excellent, tasty fresh. Fresh Oysters with Caviar was so tasty with the Caviar, didn't need to add anything. Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna Tartare was good. 2nd Course : A 12 piece Sashimi Platter with fresh fish and with king salmon. WOW!!!! 3nd Course: Sweet Corn with Butter and Soy is so good, I think that was one of my favorites. Lobster Tail with Chili Lime Butter was cooked perfectly went well with the chili lime butter. 4th Course: Japanese Mushroom Rice Hot Pot with several different types of mushroom was so good, it felt like having Risottos. Snake River Farms Wagyu Grilled Bone Marrow and Spicy Sweet Garlic Soy, the beef was so flavorful that you really doesn't need the spicy garlic soy, but you should dipped it anyways because it made the beef that much better. 5th and Final Course: A huge platter of desert with Flan, Almond Vanilla Ice Cream, Mint Lime Sorbet, Hot Fudge Chocolate Cake and assorted fruits. Everything was so delicious that we are planing on coming back for a Per New Year Dinner!!!!
Omakase review: Visited for the first time for a celebratory birthday dinner with my partner. We opted in for the omakase and a couple cocktails - murasaki sour for me (good) and the sword & samurai for him (really good). Our omakase came with 5 courses, and it was plentyyy of food: 1) Tuna on crispy rice, followed by caviar platter - the smoked trout caviar was divine! 2) Sashimi platter - pretty good, but for the price, I'd say you can get sashimi just as fresh at plenty of other restaurants 3) Lobster and corn - this corn was probably the biggest highlight!! And the sauce the lobster was in, delicious 4) Snake river farms wagyu w/chili sauce - the steak was super tasty, it almost felt like it was too much to dip it into the sauce and was better off eaten alone. Then a mushroom rice followed when we were halfway done eating the steak (a bit awkward timing) and at this point, I was so full, I wasn't sure I'd make it to dessert 5) Huge dessert platter - fruit and cheesecake were fine, but the real star is that lava cake A true feast to celebrate my birthday. In terms of ambiance, I was hoping for it to be a more intimate and quiet setting but it was actually quite loud and crowded with finance bros eating here after their work day lol. I also wish they'd wipe down the table between each course instead of just before dessert. But all in all, a good time!
A nice trendy place in SF, we enjoyed my birthday dinner here after a fun day in the city. The appetizers were very well done and our drinks were well made. A very big highlight for me was the Black Cod which was Yuzu Marinated Black Cod which was smoked in tea leaves. You could really taste the smoke flavor and the dish had so much depth. Overall I enjoyed the experience, however when in SF you cannot escape the SF prices. But for a nice dinner in the city, I thought it was worth it.
100000% recommend this place and especially the omakase. Roka Akor is both a sushi and steak restaurant chain (there are a handful in the country). If I could give it a Michelin star, I would. As it is, I can only give it 5 Yelp stars! The service is excellent. It is refined but not stuffy. You know you'll eat well but still have a good time! Our omakase meal ($152 per person) included caviar, seared scallops, fried ika (calamari), lobster, 5 pieces of fresh sashimi slices per person, a delicious corn, local Wagyu beef filet doused in truffle butter, and a huge dessert platter with 4 desserts. There is also an option for a wine or soju pairing with the omakase meal. Truly enjoyed our meal here and will certainly come back for more.
